All About The SIGNS!!!

Hi Girls and Boys,

Welcome back from Thanksgiving break.  I hope you all had a great time with family and friends and are eager to learn.  This is one of the most important concepts that will make your math career easy or hard so let's really learn this stuff.  And remember, when do you use these Rules???? Whenever you see a Negative or Subtraction sign!  There are 4 shortcuts and I am hoping you find these helpful.

Same Signs - Different Signs - Double Signs - Multiply/ Divide

Each of these 4 shortcuts has 2 rules

Same Signs                            Different Signs             

1. Add digits                          1. Subtract digits           

2. Add sign                            2. Take sign of larger digit

Double Signs

1. Turn double signs to single signs

2. Go to same signs or different signs

                             

 Multiply or Divide

1. Multiply or divide as usual

2. Count the negative signs

     * if odd number of negative signs- the answer is negative

     * if even number of negative signs- the answer is postive

Now go through the videos and write the above rules and the examples from the videos on each rule.  I will be checking this in the morning so make sure you do so.
