Solving Proportional Relationships

Good Day to all of you,
We are moving on with Solving Proportions.  Just a quick review of what proportions are..... a proportion is an equation that shows 2 ratios or 2 rates are equivalent.  For example: 6/8 =3/4.
These are actually 2 proportional fractions as they have no labels, but rates, ratios and fractions act in similar ways. The second part of this lesson is that we can solve these proportions by CROSS PRODUCTS.  We have done some crossing out of the numerator and denominators in previous chapters, and again this is similar.  Take a look at the examples and ask questions in class.
This is Maddie's grandmothers' puppy Hattie.  She is 6 weeks old and full of joy.

Converting Unit Rates

Good evening girls and boys,
We are now on our third lesson from this chapter and it is Converting Unit Rates. Do you get the feeling that Unit Rates are important?!!! This lesson is a tad difficult, but we will take it in steps.  The lesson covers one step conversion as well as a two step conversion.  This is a great deal of work, so we will divide this lesson into two......
The vocabulary for this lesson is Unit Ratio and Dimensional Analysis ( now THAT is a vocab word!).   Unit Ratio is rather similar to unit rate.  Unit Ratio has a denominator of 1 but both units are the same.  Unit Rate the units are different.
Dimensional Analysis is the process of converting the units.  I bet this is as clear as mud, but hang on and it should be clearer soon.
Here are two of my puppies.  The little lady in purple dots is Tequilla who is 8 years old and the little lady in blue dots is Lola who is 6 years old.
Please send in pics of your pets or interests.
For homework: Read the blog, watch the videos and take notes in your graphic organizer.

Complex Fractions and Unit Rates

Good Evening girls and boys,
We are onto our second lesson, and we will be covering FRACTIONS!( Do you hear that Sadie?!!!) Not only fractions, but Complex Fractions.  Complex Fractions are fractions within a fraction. Oh, boy, just when you think you have a handle on fractions, we go and complicate things!  Hang on, don't panic, and we will go over this step by step.  You will need to put forth a great effort and practice practice practice!
There will be remedial VIDEOS on + - x / Fractions that you may/should view to remind you of the operations with simple fractions.
I want to introduce you to my Momma.  This is her in front of her garden that she just planted in spring.

Homework: Read the blog, watch the videos and take notes in your graphic organizers.
